The European Commission adopted new guidelines on 25 March to help Member States adapt Natura 2000 sites to the impacts of climate change. The document clarifies how the Birds and Habitats Directives apply and provides practical recommendations to strengthen ecosystem resilience, promoting nature-based solutions. The guidance is not legally binding and does not create new obligations, but offers flexibility for national and regional implementation. The initiative responds to increasing climate pressures on Europe’s biodiversity and aims to ensure the long-term protection of habitats and species.
