In 2025, the European Investment Bank (EIB) Group committed a record €100 billion overall, allocating €12.31 billion to Italy, one of the largest beneficiaries of EIB financing in Europe.
More than 56% of operations focused on climate action and environmental sustainability, with €6.92 billion supporting the energy transition, climate adaptation and resilient infrastructure. Key investments included €2.14 billion for clean energy generation and €2.67 billion for electricity transmission and efficiency. These projects are expected to produce around 5,670 GWh of renewable energy per year—enough to power nearly 1.9 million households—and upgrade over 1,280 km of power grids.
Cohesion remained a central priority, with €4.9 billion (40%) invested in southern Italy to strengthen infrastructure, foster growth and reduce regional disparities.
EIB Vice-President Gelsomina Vigliotti stated that the financing reflects Europe’s priorities on energy transition, competitiveness and strategic autonomy, turning them into concrete investments that enhance the resilience and sustainability of Italy’s economy.
