The economy: resource efficient, green and circular
Our well-being depends on using natural resources. How can we ensure the long-term well-being of our society? The European Commission has declared that a circular economy is the only path out of the current crisis to a prosperous Europe ‒ and it is depending on SMEs to drive that change.
<p>Well-being is not easy to define or to measure.
Although it may vary from person to person as good health, family and friends, personal security, living in a pleasant and healthy environment or job satisfaction, and so on. All of them plays an important part in our well-being.
The EU has already adopted strategic goals as well as concrete action programmes to make its economy more sustainable. The Europe 2020 is a valid step forward. The strategy aims to deliver growth that is smart, sustainable and socially inclusive.
In 2014 the Commission will set out new proposals enabling Europe to unlock the potential of the circular economy.
The Commission have incorporated in the Green Week a variety of awareness-raising events which will be taking place all over Europe from 1 May 2014 to 30 June 2014. These “satellite events” must be relevant to the theme for 2014 which is Circular Economy, Resource Efficiency and Waste.
