New case studies on energy efficiency narratives
The Energy Efficiency Watch (EEW), an EU-funded project of which eceee is partner, has published ten case studies representative of the EU 27, to provide key policy recommendations to the EU on how to complement policy instruments by successful narratives for energy efficiency.
The narratives chosen are transferable to different national or regional contexts by linking to recognised benefits that, beyond energy and costs savings, may include aspects such as competitiveness through technological innovation, modernisation of buildings, job creation, climate protection, or energy security.
Key conclusions from the 10 narrative cases are:
- An engaged and well-informed public is more inclined to actively support ambitious policies.
- When highlighting the multiple benefits of energy efficiency and the energy transition, economic arguments need to be in the focus.
- Success of the energy transition requires a positive connotation of change and an according communicative framing.
- The nexus between energy efficiency and economic resilience must be strengthened.
- Societal acceptance is a key vector for major transition processes such as the decarbonisation of the energy sector.
