To this end, the Commission intends to increase the EU's 2030 target for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50% and 55% compared to 1990 levels.

Revising the current 2030 target upwards puts us on a more gradual pathway towards becoming climate-neutral by 2050. It also helps to pace and focus transition efforts from now until 2050 and ensure EU’s leadership role in addressing global challenges in a sustainable way.

The consultation aims to collect opinions on the desired ambition level of climate and energy policies, necessary actions in different sectors and specific policy design to increase climate ambition by 2030. It also aims to gather further information, including roadmaps, policy briefs and studies relevant for deeper greenhouse gas emission reductions.

This is what can be read on the European Commission website on the page on which the public consultation on the Green Deal is available.

You can contribute to this consultation by filling in the online questionnaire.
