{"id":43343,"date":"2022-09-28T07:09:00","date_gmt":"2022-09-28T05:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kyotoclub.org\/?p=43343"},"modified":"2022-10-04T07:09:56","modified_gmt":"2022-10-04T05:09:56","slug":"carmakers-global-emissions-50-higher-than-reported","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kyotoclub.org\/en\/news-en\/news-from-the-world\/2022\/09\/28\/carmakers-global-emissions-50-higher-than-reported\/","title":{"rendered":"Carmakers\u2019 global emissions 50% higher than reported"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Carmakers\u2019 global emissions are on average <strong>50% higher than what they report <\/strong>with Hyundai-Kia and BMW underreporting emissions by as much as 115% and 80% respectively, a new Transport &amp; Environment (T&amp;E) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.transportenvironment.org\/discover\/oil-companies-in-disguise-carmakers-are-a-ticking-carbon-bomb-for-investors\/\">report<\/a> shows. With obligatory scope 3 (lifetime) emissions disclosure set to be introduced in 2023, asset managers with exposure to carbon intensive carmakers face a \u2018ticking carbon bomb\u2019, says T&amp;E.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2023, the EU will introduce a requirement that financial institutions disclose their scope 3 emissions (indirect emissions)[1]. The new requirement will hit asset managers with exposure to carmakers hard.
