{"id":43049,"date":"2022-09-08T15:50:00","date_gmt":"2022-09-08T13:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kyotoclub.org\/?p=43049"},"modified":"2022-09-12T16:10:13","modified_gmt":"2022-09-12T14:10:13","slug":"eu-plans-revenue-cap-on-power-firms-mandatory-electricity-savings-at-peak-hours","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kyotoclub.org\/en\/news-en\/news-from-the-world\/2022\/09\/08\/eu-plans-revenue-cap-on-power-firms-mandatory-electricity-savings-at-peak-hours\/","title":{"rendered":"EU plans \u2018revenue cap\u2019 on power firms, mandatory electricity savings at peak hours"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The revenue cap is the centrepiece of a draft EU regulation on emergency measures to stabilise the electricity market, expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks by the European Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It will be discussed at an extraordinary meeting of EU energy ministers on Friday to address the EU\u2019s response to the energy crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe Commission proposes a limit of \u20ac200\/MWh\u201d on so-called \u201cinframarginal\u201d electricity generators, the proposal says in reference to renewables, nuclear and lignite, which have low operating costs and have benefitted the most from high gas prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Producers of renewable and nuclear electricity are making \u201cenormous revenues\u201d from the crisis, explained Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThese revenues do not reflect their production costs.
