{"id":33331,"date":"2021-03-19T10:31:00","date_gmt":"2021-03-19T09:31:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kyotoclub.org\/?p=33331"},"modified":"2021-03-29T10:36:49","modified_gmt":"2021-03-29T08:36:49","slug":"eu-countries-commit-to-leading-the-green-digital-transformation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kyotoclub.org\/en\/news-en\/news-from-the-world\/2021\/03\/19\/eu-countries-commit-to-leading-the-green-digital-transformation\/","title":{"rendered":"EU countries commit to leading the green digital transformation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The signatories of the Declaration on A Green and Digital Transformation of the EU will take action at national level in the following areas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Set up a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/digital-single-market\/en\/destination-earth-destine\">digital twin<\/a>&nbsp;of the earth to help monitor climate change;<\/li><li>Make data available in common European data spaces;<\/li><li>Support the deployment of green digital solutions that accelerate the decarbonisation of energy networks, enable precision farming, decrease pollution, combat the loss of biodiversity and optimise resource efficiency;<\/li><li>Lead on energy efficient artificial intelligence solutions;<\/li><li>Help cities become more green and digital;<\/li><li>Use technologies to make buildings more energy efficient;<\/li><li>Support smart and sustainable mobility systems;<\/li><li>Use digital product passports to track and trace products to improve circularity and sustainability;<\/li><li>Promote eco-designed products and accessible digital public services;<\/li><li>Contribute to the use of a climate neutral, sustainable and energy efficient European cloud and blockchain infrastructure;<\/li><li>Propose permits for deployment of networks and data centres that comply with the highest environmental sustainability standards;<\/li><li>Making green public procurement the default option overall;<\/li><li>Develop low power hardware technologies;<\/li><li>Use of EU funding programmes and private equity to support European green tech start-ups and SMEs<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The signatories will regularly assess their progress made and feed it into the Commission\u2019s ongoing monitoring activities. They will also contribute to a shared repository of best practices and experiences to implement the Declaration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The following countries signed the Declaration on Digital Day 2021: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Norway and Iceland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They also welcomed the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/digital-single-market\/news-redirect\/705315\">Declaration<\/a>&nbsp;of the newly established European Green Digital Coalition signed by 26 companies today.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>24 Member States and Norway and Iceland have signed a declaration to accelerate the use of green digital technologies for the benefit of the environment.
