{"id":33328,"date":"2021-03-25T18:02:00","date_gmt":"2021-03-25T17:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kyotoclub.org\/?p=33328"},"modified":"2021-03-29T10:07:47","modified_gmt":"2021-03-29T08:07:47","slug":"european-green-deal-commission-presents-actions-to-boost-organic-production","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kyotoclub.org\/en\/news-en\/news-from-the-world\/2021\/03\/25\/european-green-deal-commission-presents-actions-to-boost-organic-production\/","title":{"rendered":"European Green Deal: Commission presents actions to boost organic production"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, the Commission presented an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/sites\/info\/files\/food-farming-fisheries\/farming\/documents\/com2021_141_act_organic-action-plan_en.pdf\">Action Plan for the development of organic production<\/a>. Its overall aim is to boost the production and consumption of organic products, to reach 25% of agricultural land under organic farming by 2030, as well as to increase organic aquaculture significantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Organic production comes with a number of important benefits: organic fields have around 30% more biodiversity, organically farmed animals enjoy a higher degree of animal welfare and take less antibiotics, organic farmers have higher incomes and are more resilient, and consumers know exactly what they are getting thanks to the EU organic logo. The Action Plan is in line with the\u00a0European Green Deal\u00a0and the\u00a0Farm to Fork\u00a0and\u00a0Biodiversity Strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Action Plan is designed to provide the already fast growing organic sector the right tools to achieve the 25% target. It puts forward 23 actions structured around 3 axes \u2013&nbsp;<strong>boosting consumption<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>increasing production<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>further improving the sustainability of the sector<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 to ensure a balanced growth of the sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Commission encourages Member States to develop national organic action plans to increase their national share of organic farming. There are significant differences between Member States regarding the share of agricultural land currently under organic farming, ranging from 0.5% to over 25%.
